Meaning
High-pressure lubricants designed for use on the moving parts of injection molds ensure that components are released without damage and that the mechanical assembly operates smoothly. Using ejector pin grease prevents the seizure or galling of the pins that push the finished part out of the mold cavity. This substance must remain stable under the high temperatures and pressures common in plastic and metal casting.
Thermal Performance
Synthetic formulations maintain their viscosity and lubricity at temperatures exceeding 200 degrees Celsius. Regular application of ejector pin grease reduces the friction that leads to localized overheating and thermal expansion of the steel components. High-quality variants do not carbonize or leave hard deposits that would eventually jam the mechanism.
This stability allows for longer production runs between maintenance cycles.
Application Method
Technicians apply the lubricant sparingly to the shank of the pin while avoiding the head that contacts the molded part. Over-application of ejector pin grease causes the lubricant to migrate into the mold cavity, resulting in surface defects on the product. Modern dispensing systems allow for precise placement during the assembly of the tool.
The frequency of lubrication depends on the cycle time and the abrasiveness of the material being cast.
Contamination Risk
Migration of the lubricant onto the surface of the molded part leads to staining or interference with secondary processes like painting and plating. When ejector pin grease contaminates a production lot, the affected parts are often rejected due to aesthetic flaws or poor coating adhesion. In the production of medical devices or food-grade packaging, the use of non-toxic and non-migratory lubricants is a strict regulatory requirement.
Suppliers must provide safety data sheets to Chinese environmental authorities to confirm that the ingredients do not violate restricted substance lists.
