Meaning
Final trial runs executed on a mass-production assembly line with hardened tooling prove that the factory can consistently achieve targeted output speeds and quality levels. The production validation test is the last hurdle before the factory receives the sign-off for continuous volume manufacturing. It uses the actual workers who will run the line during mass production.
Process Stability
Running the line at full speed exposes bottlenecks in assembly, testing, and packaging stations. During a production validation test, the speed of each station is monitored to ensure there are no interruptions. This establishes a steady production flow.
Yield Measurement
Quality inspectors measure the ratio of defect-free units that come off the assembly line during the run. To pass the production validation test, the line must hit a high yield target, often set at ninety-nine percent. If the defect rate is too high, the test fails, requiring the engineering team to modify the assembly jigs and rerun the validation.
This process prevents defective goods from reaching buyers.
Deployment Authorization
Signing off on the test results allows the supplier to begin mass shipping the finished products. This transition marks the end of the development cycle. The design is now commercialized.
