Meaning
Synthetic thermoplastic polymers of the nylon family possess high mechanical strength and thermal stability. Commonly used in automotive and industrial components, polyamide 66 offers excellent resistance to wear and chemical solvents. However, its high concentration of amide groups makes the material sensitive to humidity, which requires careful drying before processing to avoid degradation.
Processing Condition
Injection molding factories must use desiccant dryers to reduce the moisture content of the polymer to less than zero point two percent by weight. If polyamide 66 is processed with excessive moisture, the polymer chain undergoes hydrolytic degradation, which severely reduces the impact strength of the molded parts. This drying process is a critical step in the factory’s quality assurance workflow.
Material Property
Mechanical strength increases significantly when the polymer is reinforced with glass fibers. This modification makes the plastic suitable for engine components.
Customs Classification
Imported plastic resins are subject to specific tariff codes under the Harmonized System enforced by the General Administration of Customs. For shipments of polyamide 66, importers must provide detailed technical data sheets showing the polymer’s density and chemical composition to justify the declared tariff classification. Accurate documentation prevents delays and fines at the port of entry where custom officers regularly audit polymer imports.
This administrative process ensures that the correct duties are paid based on the precise chemical nature of the plastic.
