Meaning
Technical facility that has demonstrated competence to generate valid results according to international standardization requirements and national accreditation. An ISO 17025 accredited laboratory in China must pass a rigorous assessment by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment. This certification proves that the facility possesses the equipment and personnel to perform specific tests.
Technical Proficiency
Staff members must undergo regular testing to prove they can operate complex instruments and interpret the data. This technical proficiency is reviewed during annual on-site audits by the accrediting body.
Management Standard
Records of equipment calibration and sample handling must be kept for at least six years. The management standard ensures that any test result can be traced back to the specific conditions under which it was generated.
Legal Authority
Reports issued by these facilities are accepted as evidence in Chinese courts and by customs authorities. This legal authority allows a buyer to reject a shipment based on a laboratory report without the need for further validation. Facilities without this accreditation cannot provide certificates of analysis that hold weight in a commercial dispute.
The presence of the CNAS mark on a report is the primary indicator of its official standing.
